Tree Inventory

A tree inventory is a structured register of every tree on a site or across a managed estate — species, size, location and condition — used to plan maintenance, budget for renewal, and support risk management over time.

What a tree inventory typically records

  • A unique identifier and GPS location for every tree.
  • Species, DSH (diameter at standard height), height and canopy spread.
  • Condition and structure ratings, and any recommended works.
  • Photographs and inspection dates, so change over time can be tracked.

Who maintains one

Councils, universities, utilities and large property portfolios commonly maintain a tree inventory to plan pruning and removal budgets, respond to requests, and demonstrate duty-of-care compliance. Inventories are typically refreshed on a cyclical inspection program rather than produced once.

Keeping an inventory accurate

Inventories drift out of date quickly when field data is captured on paper or in disconnected spreadsheets. EasyTrees is being built so field teams can record tree data, GPS locations and photos directly on site — including offline — and synchronise it back into a consistent register.
